Shanghai Maritime University and Seacon Shipping Group together have signed an agreement to jointly build a “Multi-Functional green training ship ”
On January 8, Li Zhi Peng presided over the signing ceremony of the strategic cooperation agreement between Shanghai Maritime University and Seacon Shipping Group for the "Multi-Functional Green Training Ship." The ceremony took place at the Harbor Campus. Attendees included Song Bao Ru, Secretary of the University Party Committee; Li Zhi Peng, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee; Guo Jin Kui, Chairman of Seacon Shipping Group; and Yin Xun Bin, Director of ORIC.
Song Bao Ru, on behalf of the university, warmly welcomed the guests. He highlighted that President Xi has emphasized the importance of transportation as a pioneer in China's modernization efforts. Ensuring efficient construction and safe operations will be crucial to achieving this goal.
Currently, Shanghai's shipping industry faces a talent gap, particularly in high-end shipping professionals, necessitating accelerated training of new crew members to align with the industry's trends of digitalization, intelligence, and greening. Shanghai Maritime University has distinct strengths in cultivating shipping talent and has made significant contributions to the industry's development. The university's collaboration with Seacon Shipping Group to build China's first "Multi-Functional Green Training Ship" marks a new chapter in addressing the shipping talent gap.
Moving forward, the university will continue to focus on talent cultivation, scientific innovation, and cultural development. Together with Seacon Shipping Group, they aim to achieve "three transformations," promote maritime culture, and explore new operational models. This initiative will inject new vitality into Shanghai's development as an international shipping center and contribute to China's aspirations of becoming a strong maritime nation.
Guo Jin Kui expressed his gratitude to his alma mater and emphasized that Seacon Shipping Group would fully support Shanghai Maritime University, including promoting talent development and technological innovation while serving national strategies.
Yin Xun Bin later introduced the specific design details of the "Multi-Functional Green Training Ship."
Li Zhi Peng and Man Xin, General Manager of the Investment Development and Operations Department of Seacon Shipping Group, signed the cooperation agreement for the "Multi-Functional Green Training Ship" on behalf of their respective parties.
Representatives from the university's Party Committee Office, President's Office, Development Planning and Quality Management Office, Science and Technology Office, Academic Affairs Office, Asset Management Company, Merchant Marine College, Continuing Education College, and Xu Bei Hong Academy of Art also attended the signing ceremony.
