The 100 Most Influential Persons in Shipping Industry

    On December 31st, 2023 the list of “The 100 Most Influential Persons in Shipping Industry” was officially released, on the list this year there were 93 males and 7 females. The list was selected by China Transport News and Shipping Industry Network. Guo Jin Kui, Chairman of the Seacon Shipping Group was selected as one of the "Top 100," ranking 48th.


2023 is the first recovery economy year after Covid-19, China’s shipping industry adhered to the general principle of seeking progress while maintaining stability and green shipping. In 2023, China surpassed Greece for the first time to become the world’s largest ship-owning country, further highlighting its role in stabilizing international logistics supply chains. This year, China’s port service capabilities and service scale continued to improve, by November 2023, the total cargo throughput at China’s ports reached 1.551 billion tons, an 8.4% year-on-year increase, while container throughput reached 280 million TEUs, growing by 4.9%.


According to the "Xinhua-Baltic International Shipping Center Development Index Report (2023)," Globally, Shanghai was ranked third place for the fourth consecutive year, and Ningbo-Zhoushan remained in the top ten for three years. China had six cities ranked in the top 20. In terms of sectors, the list included 40 people from various shipping companies, 12 from port and terminal operations, 11 from shipbuilding and offshore engineering, and 37 from other sectors such as shipping finance, logistics, technology, maritime law, insurance, maritime academies, and think tanks. The first place on the Top 100 is the CEO of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited Geng Wen. CSSC owns China’s largest shipbuilding and repair base corporate. It can design and build ships that meet global classification society standards.


 On November 4, 2023, the first domestically made luxury cruise ship, "Aida Magic City," built by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co, a subsidiary of CSSC. This marked China’s capability to simultaneously build aircraft carriers, large LNG carriers, and large cruise ships, completing the "three pearls" of shipbuilding. The China Shipping Top 100 was first published in December 2014 since then received attention from transport authorities, media, and market. This list is guided by the implementation of national strategies and based on China's contribution to world shipping. The information gathering is based on media news in the shipping industry of 2023.
