Huanghua Shipbuilding has received four 62,000-ton multipurpose dry cargo ships orders from Seacon Shipping Group
Recently, Seacon Shipping Group has placed an additional order for four 62,000 DWT multi-purpose dry cargo ships at Huanghua Shipbuilding. The company has also signed a 15-year bareboat charter agreement with China Merchants Finance Leasing for these new ships. The four new vessels are expected to be delivered between August and December 2025, with each ship cost approximately $41.58 million. The bareboat charter contract with China Merchants Finance Leasing is structured as 3+3+3+3+3 years. If the lease term is shorter than 15 years, Seacon Shipping Group has the option to purchase the four ships.
Previously, Seacon Shipping Group had previously placed an order for two 62,000 DWT bulk carriers at Huanghua Shipbuilding in the first half of this year, each priced at $41.58 million, with delivery scheduled of the end of this year. Seacon Shipping Group was established in 2012, focused on ship management services, the company has expanded into broader shipping services, offering a one-stop solution across the industry value chain. Seacon Shipping Group ranks as the fifth-largest maritime service company in China and the fifth-largest dry bulk shipping company.
In 2021, Seacon Shipping Group ranked first among other shipping management service providers in China based on the number of vessels approximately 1.26 million DWT and an international dry bulk fleet of 1.15 million DWT. On June 30, 2023, Seacon Shipping Group controlled a fleet of 24 vessels, totaling approximately 1.32 million DWT. It also managed 196 vessels for third-party clients, including dry bulk carriers, tankers, chemical tankers, passenger ships, general cargo ships, and container vessels.
According to Clarkson's data, Huanghua Shipbuilding has received a total of 21 new ship orders in 2023, including 10 multi-purpose heavy-lift vessels, 4 general cargo ships, 2 container vessels, 2 bulk carriers, 1 refrigerated ship, and 2 refrigerated fishing vessels. Currently, Huanghua Shipbuilding holds a backlog of 47 ships totaling 1.05 million DWT, with vessel types including feeder container ships, multi-purpose heavy-lift vessels, bulk carriers, and general cargo ships, with delivery schedules extending into 2026.
